When It's Today It's Tomorrow
Edward Hopper, Nighthawks, 1942, oil on canvas, 33-1/8 x 60 inches (The Art Institute of Chicago)
Photographed vista layoutsFor the expressive vista project we began with short 30-60 second free hand sketches of emotions that were given to us. This part was honestly the largest struggle for me and when we had the other people place them in the category they thought the majority were placed in the wrong place. The two I landed on working with were my most accurate according to their word. We had to display them 3-D to discover the use of space and work with depth of field. This really changes the piece as a whole in regards to the laid out images above. My final pieces turned out nice in my opinion.
Abigail McCullough was my partner and we worked with the berries off of the trees and used a circle as our shape.
I chose to work with loss and desire instead of fantasy this time around. The lyrics I selected was "I'm on the edge of glory...". These are from Lady Gaga's song; Edge Of Glory. The reason I associated these to loss and desire is because in one of her live performances she dedicates this song to her grandfather who has passed away. I am really satisfied that when one hear's this lyric its typically linked to positive thoughts/actions and right at the tip of success. Her dedication to her grandfather made me connect this lyric to loss. Further, being on the edge of glory is a desire.
I was having a hard time with finding a support that related to my topic. I really wanted to use the images I cut out and drew on, I drew my code, maritime nautical, on each cut out image. Some of the flags are easily noticed where as others are very subtle and hidden. I went with the glasses because I enjoy the visual. It seems delicate and beautiful; lyrics can hold that characteristic but all depends one whom and how one is thinking about it. My best connection to my glass support is a glass can be either full or empty: optimistic or pessimistic. This is related to my earlier explanation of how one would likely interpret these lyrics verse someone that has seen her live performance and knows the connection to her grandfather. Also a empty glass can be tied to loss, you had to start with a full glass (desire), to reach and empty glass (loss). There's is a whole journey in our life's we experience; the middle ground of loss and desire (when you glass is filled to the middle). |
